MANCBETH
"Martin Andrews has created a wholly coherent piece of work that succeeds in all of its aims, from remaking the original story in a completely different form, to creating an often glorious kaleidoscope of electronic music that stretches in style from early synth pioneers like Fad Gadget, through New Order and John Carpenter, to hip hop and 90s and 00s techno, even managing to stop of at The Fall and Yard Act along the way. Macbeth might be a tragedy, but ‘Mancbeth’ is a triumph". NIGHTSHIFT MAGAZINE, June 2024
"An ambitious 14-track album. It’s a dark exploration of the ‘Scottish Play’ and the result is playful, subversive and tongue-in cheek amidst all the necessary darkness. Encased in warped disco, house and techno, Octavia Freud’s Mancbeth persona/character is a multifaceted anti-hero, worthy of this enormous collaboration steeped in the Bard’s own immortal quotations. The whole work is rife with electronic oddities and treasures. This GCSE syllabus staple leaps to life again with a fresh interpretation morphed into a fearful new hybrid character".

Octavia Freud and the weird sisters present MANCBETH, a concept album of electronic bangers featuring an array of vocal talents from Oxford and Manchester.
It is based on David Lemberg's script that updates Shakespeare's tale to the murky world of raves, drug dealing and murder in early 9o's Madchester.
The idea of producing an album to go alongside the MANCBETH film script and theatre production came about when script writer David Lemberg visited Modern Art Oxford gallery and struck up a conversation with fellow Mancunian Martin Andrews aka electronic producer Octavia Freud.
Realising they were both originally from the same part of Manchester but now based in Oxford a plan was struck to come up with a concept album based on David's idea of setting the tragedy of Macbeth in a nightclub in Manchester but using the vocal talents from the Oxford music scene.
The 14 track Macbeth themed album includes guest vocals by Emma Hunter, Mila Todd, The Bobo, Pet Twin, Cate DeBu from The Subtheory and Oxford's brand new vocal discovery Kate Hicks.
The first double AA singles, 'Fair is Foul' and 'Invincible' are released on March 1st 2024. This is followed by a second double AA single release, 'My Future' and 'He was born in a different way' featuring Emma Hunter.
A new MANCBETH theatre production will be performed at Modern Art Oxford on April 20th. The MAO live musical event will have Brian Gorman reprising his role as Anthony Wilson seen previously in the 'New Dawn Fades' production at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
The new MANCBETH theatre piece is built around a fictional music tv show called TVOD with interviews, tv audience, live music performances of the songs from the album with the addition of Octavia Freud recounting his fictional friendship with Macbeth during the rave clubbing era of the early 90's in Manchester. Tickets will go on sale on 23rd March 2024 at wegottickets.
The full album release will be in May 2024 followed by summer festival dates featuring the full Octavia Freud & The Weird Sisters lineup and one off events in Manchester and London.
